Journalist claims Emerson wants Spurs move despite Arsenal interest
Kaveh Solhekol has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 30/8; 17:12) that Arsenal had wanted to sign Emerson Royal from Barcelona, but the defender wants to join Spurs this summer.
Emerson looks set to be on the move in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
And it appears that he could be Tottenham Hotspur Stadium-bound. According to Sky Sports, Spurs have bid £25.7 million for the right-back.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have reached an agreement over a deal that would include further add-ons.
The Italian has suggested that finalising personal terms is all that is left between Tottenham and a deal for the 22-year-old.
And it seems that that potential deal may be about to compound the frustration currently being felt elsewhere in North London.
Solhekol has claimed on Sky Sports (broadcast on 30/8; 17:12) that Arsenal had wanted the youngster. However, Emerson is keen to join Spurs.
Admittedly, it is not entirely clear when the Gunners made their move. They have been linked with wanting the Brazilian in a potential swap deal with Hector Bellerin earlier in the month.
But with their right-back problems continuing, it would perhaps come as little surprise if they reignited their interest in the last few days.
Solhekol’s comments would also drop the slightest hint that they have not long left the race.
Gulf between Arsenal and Spurs not only evident in Premier League table as Emerson Royal makes decision
Obviously much has been made of the two North London rivals’ respective positions in the Premier League table.
In truth, Arsenal do not appear to have had a terrible window. The likes of Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale look to have bright futures ahead.
But their inability to offload their fringe players has proved to be a huge problem for the Gunners. And that has seemingly prevented the club from conducting a bigger overhaul.
Spurs meanwhile, have managed to move many of their players on. And with that, they have strengthened many of the problematic areas.
Landing Emerson would be the icing on the cake for many.
There is still work to be done. But they have seemingly received a huge boost with Emerson preferring to join Spurs over their rivals.
