Report: Barcelona now ready to make £60m Raphinha bid
Barcelona are ready to make a bid worth up to £60.2 million for Raphinha as they look to snatch the Leeds United star before he completes a move to Chelsea, according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb.
It has been turbulent following the situation surrounding Raphinha of late. Earlier in the week, it appeared that Chelsea were on the verge of winning the race.
A £60 million fee with Leeds had been agreed. But with personal terms still to be agreed, the door has been left open for a late twist.
Of course, it is no secret that the Brazilian is thought to want to join Barcelona. Reports towards the end of last season claimed that the Leeds star had agreed a five-year deal with the Catalan giants.
However, agreeing a fee with the Whites has been beyond Barca so far. And with Chelsea reportedly being willing to offer Raphinha a deal worth £115,000-a-week, it seemed that he may be Stamford Bridge-bound.
But Barcelona are about to make a last-ditch play, it seems. Tuttomercatoweb reports that Xavi’s side are ready to make a bid of £60 million.
The offer would see Leeds receive £51.6 million up front, with the rest coming in add-ons.
Barcelona ready to make Raphinha bid
It would certainly leave Leeds with plenty to ponder if Barcelona did indeed make such a bid. Raphinha has kept largely quiet about his future thus far. But you would imagine that he may have something to say if Barca make that bid.
It is not ideal for the Whites. They would surely want more up front. But Raphinha may not be pleased if the offer is turned down.
Leeds also need to weigh up whether selling him to a club outside of the Premier League may leave them more willing to accept slightly less. They are not going to face Barca next season, so his form at Camp Nou will not impact them.
It is a fascinating twist and it is now more difficult to call what will happen next. If Barcelona do make this offer, surely a move to Catalonia has suddenly become a lot more likely again.
