Report: Atletico Madrid want to sign Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin
According to reports from Spain, Atletico Madrid could now be in the hunt to sign Arsenal defender, Hector Bellerin, this summer.
Spanish oulet Marca makes the claim. They suggest the Diego Simeone could be interested in Bellerin. Further, they also claim that a swap deal involving Kieran Trippier could be proposed.
Bellerin is thought to be among the players who are set to leave the Gunners this summer. The long-serving Spaniard has been integral for a number of seasons, although the odd injury had stunted him a bit.
Mikel Arteta is willing to allow Bellerin to leave to help fund a mini-rebuild at the club again. The likes of Max Aarons, thought to be on the radar of the Arsenal manager, as covered by TBR previously.
There is no grudge between Arteta and Bellerin. Indeed, the Gunners boss praised the right-back at the end of 2020. Back then, he hailed Bellerin as one of the ‘key figures’ on the dressing room. (The Sun)
Any move for Bellerin would likely push Trippier out, regardless. The English full-back has been exceptional, but Marca state that Atletico are long-time admirers of Bellerin.
How a swap deal would go down, mind, is anyone’s guess. Especially given Trippier’s links to Arsenal’s fiercest rivals, Spurs.
Bellerin to Atletico could make sense but Trippier a short-term replacement
There is a growing sense that Bellerin is on his way here. Numerous clubs are linked, so it’s unsurprising to see Atletico chuck their name in the hat.
The mention of Trippier is intriguing. He’s been brilliant but would represent a shorter term solution for Mikel Arteta. Which is fine on one hand, but represents issues further down the line.
In an ideal world, Arsenal simply get some good money for Bellerin. Then, they can move for someone like Aarons and cement the right-back slot for years to come.
