Report: Atletico Madrid interested in Tottenham defender Tanganga

Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Japhet Tanganga from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo.

Tanganga finds himself in a difficult position in this window. Unfortunately, he has been sidelined for the large part of Antonio Conte’s tenure so far due to injury.

He is now 23 and will surely have his sights set on regular game-time. And that may perhaps not happen should he stay with Tottenham.

Of course, Spurs are on the lookout for a new right wing-back. Meanwhile, Cristian Romero was absolutely outstanding on that side of the back three. And Davinson Sanchez was very impressive when used as cover.

So Tottenham would surely be wise to consider any offers that come in for Tanganga. And perhaps one could arrive from Atletico Madrid.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Diego Simeone’s men want Tanganga. His ability to play on the right or in the middle appeals to Atleti.

Much will surely depend on how much Atletico are prepared to pay for Tanganga. You would imagine that Tottenham would be more than happy to keep the academy graduate if no suitable bid comes in.

He has a lot of potential. Jose Mourinho labelled him ‘amazing‘ after his Tottenham debut. And he is one of these players who seems to have the capacity to step up whenever called upon – even if he has to bide his time between appearances.

But Spurs may be wary of denying him a move. Tanganga will want to play more. And the prospect of moving to another country may perhaps appeal to the youngster.

Joining Atletico and playing under Simeone will certainly excite plenty of players. He has established himself as one of the most-recognised coaches around right now – even if some of his methods attract criticism.
