Report: Tottenham could now walk away from signing 'incredible' £20m player after London meeting last night
Tottenham Hotspur have met with the agents of Djed Spence in London last night but a deal is still no closer to being done, according to Sky Sports.
Spence has been on the radar of Spurs for some time now and it’s been widely expected that there’d be little trouble in getting the deal over the line. However, Sky Sports have now claimed that Spurs could be prepared to walk away from negotiations.
It’s claimed that the two clubs are still some way apart in their valuation of the player. It’s believed Boro want around £20m for Spence, who enjoyed a fine season with Nottingham Forest last term.
Spence – who has been lauded as an ‘incredible’ player – is said to be excited about the prospect of working under Antonio Conte. However, he’ll be nervous of the deal not getting done and will be hoping his representatives can get things over the line this weekend.
Tottenham boss Conte has been hoping to sign a new right wing-back this summer as he looks to press on with his transformation of the club. Spence’s power, pace, and potential is something Conte is a big fan of.
TBR’s View: Tottenham Need To Get Spence Deal Done
Nottingham Forest fans might be happy about this, but Spurs fans will be a bit perplexed if they don’t get the deal for Djed Spence done.
£20m is not a lot of money in the modern market and if Spurs are serious about backing Conte, they need to get his main targets in the building. Spence is one of them, and despite the mention of other targets, he will be Conte’s main ask in the position.
Hopefully, for Spurs fans anyway, this is just a case of negotiating and coming to an agreement. If not, it will be a bitter blow for Paratici and Conte.
