Newcastle United may have to pay a lot more than previously thought for Duvan Zapata this summer, with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that Atalanta value the Colombian at £33.8 million.
Zapata is back on the Magpies’ radar in this window. Eddie Howe’s men looked at a £35 million loan-to-buy deal back in January as they set their sights on Premier League survival.

And they are keen once again.
Reports at the weekend claimed that he could be signed for a bargain price. It was suggested that the Serie A side could sell the 31-year-old for just £15 million.

However, his asking price could actually be more than double that amount. Tuttomercatoweb also reports that Newcastle want Zapata. But Atalanta are asking for €40 million for the forward.
It is also stated that convincing Zapata to make the move will not be easy for Newcastle.
Newcastle left with much tougher decision on Duvan Zapata
When the asking price was £15 million, it seemed to be a no-brainer for Newcastle. He has been a consistent goalscorer in Italy for a number of years now.
And he could have a couple more years at the highest level.
However, their decision is a lot tougher should Atalanta be demanding considerably more. Certainly, paying nearly £34 million would make a move much more of a gamble for Eddie Howe’s side.
They do need to sign a new striker in this window. But factors such as his age and his goalscoring record come under much greater scrutiny should he cost the higher amount.
Perhaps the different reports highlight that there is room for a compromise.
Surely, Newcastle will need one before they seriously pursue Zapata in this window.
