Aston Villa could be about to make a move for River Plate star and Argentinian starlet, Julian Alvarez, this summer.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who claim in an exclusive report that Villa want to start talks with Alvarez in the coming days.

21-year-old Alvarez is seen as one of the brightest prospects to be emerging from Argentina in recent years. He recently made his debut too, after being selected for the Copa America squad.

His emergence into the national team follows on from some superb performances for River Plate. Despite being just 21, he’s already scored 16 and set up 17 in less than 70 appearances.

Villa are looking to spend big this summer it seems. The future of Jack Grealish remains up in the air, but Alvarez plays on the opposite side to the England man in the main.

Dean Smith has already splashed out on Emi Buendia. Further, the Villans are also keen on Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe.

The addition of Alvarez would add yet another string to their bow. It is claimed Villa could land him for £15m.

Aston Villa mean business this season and Alvarez is quite the talent

Another week, and another player linked with Villa. And more importantly, another exciting attacking player.

Villa’s owners were not kidding when they said they had ambitious plans for the club. Over £30m on Buendia, bids in for Smith Rowe, and now an exciting South American. For Villa fans, it’s an exciting time.

You don’t get selected for Argentina without being a top player. Alvarez, then, seems to be another off the production line.

If Villa can get this one over the line and keep adding more in this window, then a top four push could even be on. Especially, if they can keep Grealish.

Villa Park seems to be the place to be right now and Smith – and the owners – deserve immense credit.
