Report: Aston Villa to make £30m bid for Tammy Abraham
Aston Villa are planning to make a bid of over £30 million for Tammy Abraham, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (30/5; page 66).
Abraham looks set to be on the move this summer. The 23-year-old has fallen to the periphery of the Chelsea squad since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival.
The striker was not even named on the bench on Saturday as the Blues went on to win the Champions League in Porto.
And it appears that his lack of game-time has provided all of the encouragement Aston Villa could need.
The Sunday Mirror (30/5; page 66) reports that the Villans are planning to make a bid for the England international.
The report claims that the offer is set to be worth in excess of £30 million, while Dean Smith’s men are also keen on Chelsea teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Abraham should welcome chance to return to Aston Villa as bid nears
It is not entirely clear what Villa plan to offer, but perhaps they should brace themselves to find themselves a little short of Chelsea’s asking price.
It was recently suggested that the Blues want £40 million for Abraham. So there may be a little way to go before an agreement is reached.
But Abraham will surely be delighted if Villa manage to agree a fee.
He enjoyed a fantastic loan spell at Villa Park while Smith’s side were in the Championship.
He scored 26 goals that year as they sealed promotion at Wembley.
And the Villa fans clearly have a lot of affection for the striker. Many chanted his name on the final day of this campaign when Tuchel brought his side to the Midlands.
So he should surely welcome the chance to return to his old side this summer.
Of course, he is not guaranteed a spot at Villa Park either after Ollie Watkins’s outstanding first year at the highest level.
But he is a player with 90 career goals already. It should not take long for his talent and quality to shine through if he gets the chance to play regularly.
