Report: Aston Villa to beat Arsenal to signing of Emi Buendia
Aston Villa are set to win the race ahead of Arsenal to sign Norwich City midfielder, Emi Buendia, according to a report from the Mirror.
The report claims Villa will pay a club-record fee for the Argentinian playmaker, which will be more than the £28m they paid for Ollie Watkins last summer.
Arsenal will be devastated at the news after tracking Buendia since the beginning of last season. The Gunners were said to be eyeing their own move for the Norwich star. However, Villa appear to have jumped the gun and made Buendia their own.
The Mirror’s report claims that formalities on a deal will be completed in the coming days. It is expected Buendia will sign, unless there is a dramatic late change from Arsenal.
Buendia was integral for Norwich as they won promotion from the Championship last season. The midfielder hit double figures for both goals and assists.
Arsenal were thought to be super keen on signing Buendia. As reported by TBR recently, the Gunners thought a £40m might be possible.
However, it seems Villa have now won the race and will discuss terms with the Norwich star in the coming hours.
Buendia blow for Arsenal is massive for them and even bigger for Villa
Wow. What a move this is from Aston Villa and their owners. Once again, the Villans are making a splash in the market and proving themselves as real top flight force.
Buendia will be an outstanding signing for the club. For Arsenal, though, it appears they’ve once again missed out on a key target.
Arsenal fans will be hoping this isn’t a sign of things to come. A big summer awaits for the Gunners. Missing out on players such as Buendia is simply not acceptable.
For Villa, though, it looks like being a huge coup for the club.
