Report: Aston Villa lead Joaquin Correa race; Everton keen
Aston Villa have jumped to the front of the queue in the race for Joaquin Correa, but the Sunday Mirror (8/8; page 75) reports that Everton and Leicester City are also in the running for the forward.
Correa has been linked with a potential Premier League switch for much of the summer. In fact, it was claimed earlier in the window that Arsenal and the Toffees had been in talks with his agent.
The 26-year-old scored eight goals in Serie A last season. He also provided three assists.
Despite his form, Lazio are open to selling Correa. And according to the Sunday Mirror (8/8; page 75), they want a deal done quickly.
Interestingly, Everton remain in the race. Leicester meanwhile, also want the Argentinian.
However, the Mirror reports that the Villans lead the race. The Biancocelesti want close to £30 million for the Copa America winner.
Aston Villa about to make another major statement in the transfer window amid Joaquin Correa interest?
Despite losing their best player, Villa look to be on course for a fantastic window.
The likes of Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings have arrived. With that, Dean Smith’s men have given themselves a fantastic chance of actually being better off in life after Jack Grealish.
Adding Correa to the ranks would be another amazing statement. He can play up front or out on the left.
And a major strength is his ability to retain possession while dribbling.
If they can force through a deal for Emi Martinez’s international teammate, it may have the potential to be another inspired piece of business.
