Report: As well as Rodon, Jose Mourinho is now trying to sign another 'amazing' Tottenham player
Roma, managed by Jose Mourinho, want to sign Tottenham defender Emerson Royal during the current transfer window.
The Daily Express report that Atletico Madrid have made a formal approach to sign the Brazilian defender from Spurs.
But they also say that Mourinho’s European Conference League holders are in the chase to sign the right-back.
Royal has spent just one season at Spurs so far, and his agent has said that Antonio Conte does not want to lose him.
Roma want Emerson Royal
That stance would not make a huge amount of sense, with Djed Spence seemingly set to join Tottenham from Middlesbrough.
Spence would expect to start at right wing-back, with Matt Doherty’s resurgence probably putting him ahead of Roayal in the pecking order.
Graham Roberts described one of Royal’s displays as ‘amazing‘ last season but he did not show enough consistency or quality in his maiden campaign.
Royal is not the only Tottenham player their former boss Mourinho has been linked so far this summer.
It has been reported that Roma are keen on Joe Rodon, who could be freer to move on once Clement Lenglet’s arrival is confirmed.
Mourinho was the Spurs manager who signed Rodon, but it has not worked out in north London for the Welshman, who needs to be playing regularly to be on top form for the World Cup later this year.
