Mikel Arteta has given a move for Lucas Paqueta his approval, with Arsenal now in talks with Lyon about a deal for the midfielder, according to a report from UOL.

Paqueta appears to be a key target for the Gunners in the final weeks of the window. It does appear that Arsenal do still need to strengthen further in the middle of the park.

Reports this week claimed that Arsenal have now told Paqueta’s representatives that they plan to bid for the Brazilian. Lyon meanwhile, want £67.5 million for the 24-year-old.

It seems that the Gunners hope to land him for less.

UOL is now reporting that Arsenal and Lyon have now opened discussions about a possible deal. Neither side is in a rush with plenty of time left in the window.

Arteta has given the move his approval. And Edu is an admirer of the former AC Milan player.

UOL add that the minimum Lyon is prepared to consider for Paqueta is £50.7 million. Arsenal view that price as being too high and want to agree a lower fee or pay some of the amount in add-ons.

Arteta gives Arsenal move for Paqueta the green light

Arsenal have done some brilliant business in this window. They have improved their options in several areas. And they have not deviated from the strategy that brought a lot of success last year.

Paqueta would fit into that policy. He is someone who has really impressed at the highest level, and looked ‘extraordinary‘ at times. But there is surely scope to improve further.

Clearly, there is going to be some intense discussions over his asking price. Lyon are a club who dig their heels in when it comes to selling players.

But he is someone with the potential to prove an inspired addition if Arsenal push the boat out.
