Report: Arsenal's interest in Danilo has completely cooled
In something of a surprise twist, Arsenal’s interest in Danilo has completely cooled ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report from LANCE in Brazil.
It had appeared that the Gunners may be closing in on a deal for the 21-year-old. Recent reports from 90min claimed that Mikel Arteta’s men were in advanced talks over a move for the Palmeiras starlet.
LANCE reports that Arsenal had been willing to pay £25.8 million to sign Danilo, with Edu pushing for the Gunners to get a deal over the line.
Arsenal’s interest in Danilo cools
However, the situation now appears to have changed.
According to the report, Arsenal’s interest in the youngster has dramatically cooled following the World Cup.
It is noted that Arsenal are focused on signing a new striker after losing Gabriel Jesus to a significant injury. Meanwhile, Arteta is less convinced about Danilo, particularly after he failed to make his debut for Brazil earlier this year.
Gunners making the right call ahead of January
Arsenal fans may have mixed feelings about the notion of looking elsewhere. Danilo is obviously a very bright talent. And the Gunners have got very little wrong in the market in recent times.
However, Arteta’s men are going for the league title this season. And they are facing that challenge without their star striker for the foreseeable future.
Eddie Nketiah has been good this season. But Arsenal need to sign a new striker in January. And with that, spending nearly £26 million on Danilo may not make a lot of sense to the club right now.
Perhaps they will revisit their interest in Danilo in the future. But if they are working with a more limited budget next month, then Arsenal are probably making the right call seemingly looking elsewhere.
