Report: Arsenal want 26-year-old that Thierry Henry once called “amazing”

Arsenal are reportedly interested in Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, who surprisingly could be up for sale this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Sterling heads a list of players Man City are willing to sell at the end of the season.

It is explained that they would listen to offers for the 26-year-old. Additionally, teammate Riyad Mahrez is another that may be allowed to leave the Etihad Stadium.

The report states that Arsenal have an interest in Sterling. However, there is a massive financial obstacle the Gunners would need overcome to sign him, plus they have no European football next season.

Man City’s transfer story broke last night on the eve of their Champions League final against Chelsea.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

England international Sterling has lost his lost starting position at Man City in recent months. But he’s scored 14 goals and managed 12 assists across all competitions this season.

The left-winger is a supreme talent that’s been at the top level for years.

With Arsenal linked, it’s interesting to hear comments from Gunners legend Thierry Henry about Sterling a few years ago:

“Sterling takes advantage of City’s clear philosophy and benefits from it, as he’s been amazing this season with his goals, taking the game against Huddersfield by the scruff of its neck, he created the penalty, he scored the winner, he’s taking advantage of that and he’s understanding what Pep wants from him and growing as a player,” Henry said in November 2017.

Sterling joining Arsenal belongs in fantasy land

If Sterling moves to Arsenal this summer, it would be absolutely jaw-dropping. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta worked alongside Sterling when he was an assistant at Man City, which is surely the reason the report has surfaced in the first place.

If he is going to leave the Etihad this season, there is no way he’ll go to Arsenal.

He’s preparing for Saturday’s Champions League final, so ditching that for no European football next year seems impossible.

Sterling cost Man City £49million from Liverpool back in 2015, and he’s scored 114 goals for them in that time to try put into context what a brilliant player he’s been for them.
