Report: Arsenal told to pay £34m for Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes
Arsenal are keen on signing Lyon midfielder, Bruno Guimarães, but will need to find big money if they are to tempt him to England.
Goal reported this week that Guimaraes had emerged as a target for the Gunners. Mikel Arteta is yet to bolster his midfield options as he’d like, with the Brazilian now apparently on his list.
But while Arsenal are willing to invest around £25m in Guimaraes, a report from Globo.com has claimed that Lyon will demand closer to £34m if they are to sell the midfielder.
The 23-year-old has a contract with Lyon until 2024. However, the French giants could be tempted to sell should the right offer arrive.
Guimaraes is the latest name to emerge from the Arsenal camp as they look for a new midfielder. The likes of Yves Bissouma, Sander Berge, and James Maddison have been continually linked. But, as yet, no deals have been struck.
The Gunners landed Ben White for a whopping £50m yesterday. However, their spending is set to carry on further before the window ends.
£34m for Guimaraes would represent a similar figure to that which Sassuolo want for another reported target, Manuel Locatelli.
Arsenal determined but big money needed
You can’t fault Arsenal’s desire to make a splash in the market this summer at all. They’ve been linked with countless players, and in fairness to Edu, are getting deals done.
Guimaraes is a name that has come from out of the blue really. But he is another top player, and certainly someone who can improve the Gunners.
Of course, big money is needed. But Arsenal seem willing to spend this summer, so the club could well be tempted to make their push for the Brazilian if they deem it necessary.
