Report: Arsenal to triple Nuno Tavares' wages
Arsenal look to be edging closer to completing their first signing of the summer, with A Bola in Portugal reporting that Nuno Tavares could fly to London in the coming hours for a medical before signing a contract that will see his wages tripled.
Tavares has moved prominently onto the Gunners’ radar in the last few days. According to recent reports, they were in talks with Benfica over a deal that could initially cost £6 million.
It was noted that the Portuguese side want up to £15 million for the 21-year-old, who is set to provide cover for Kieran Tierney.
And it seems that a move is almost across the line, with another key hurdle set to be cleared in the next day or so.
According to A Bola, he could arrive in England in the coming hours. It is suggested that he will undergo his medical.
Interestingly, the report adds that Tavares is set to earn three times what he is paid in Portugal.
Meanwhile, A Bola adds that Arsenal will pay around £8.6 million in total. The up front fee will be around £6.9 million.
Arsenal acting swiftly and handing Nuno Tavares lucrative contract bodes well for the rest of the summer
Of course, Arsenal may have been working on this deal for some time. However, their interest has seemingly only become public in the last few days.
So it may bode well for the rest of the window that they have seemingly acted so swiftly.
Arsenal have been linked with a raft of players. So hopefully their swift progress is a sign of what is to come from the Gunners.
