Reports in March claimed that Arsenal want Wolfsburg striker Omar Marmoush, but the Gunners are going to have to battle with their Premier League rivals if they hope to sign the 23-year-old.

Of course, Mikel Arteta has strengthened his striker ranks this summer. The Gunners have signed Gabriel Jesus, while they have also kept Eddie Nketiah.

They also have added Marquinhos to their wider options. And reports have suggested that they also want Raphinha.

One of the first players linked with a summer move probably would have been Marmoush.

Those links appear to have gone fairly quiet. But it does seem that the Egypt international could still end up moving to the Premier League in this window.

Sky Germany has now reported that Brentford have made the most serious offer for the forward. Wolfsburg do want to keep Marmoush. And the Bees’ offer has not been accepted. However, he only has one year left on his contract. So the German side are in a precarious situation.

It would probably be a surprise if Arsenal reignited their interest in Marmoush. The Gunners have a superb group of attacking players right now.

They may well want to add one more. Certainly, if Raphinha becomes available again, you would imagine that the Gunners would be tempted to make a big play to sign the Brazilian.

A move for Marmoush would probably not be the priority. But Brentford pursuing a deal highlights he does have real potential. He did still score three goals and contribute five assists in the top-flight on loan with Stuttgart last year.

He has been described as ‘magnificent‘. And the Bees have done some incredibly smart work in the market.

So you would imagine that Arsenal may well be monitoring developments over the coming weeks.
