Report: Arsenal target Douglas Luiz attracts £30m bid from PL rival

Arsenal are considering a move for Douglas Luiz before the January transfer window closes, but the London Evening Standard reports that Aston Villa have already rejected a £30 million bid from another Premier League side.

The Gunners are continuing their push for a new central midfielder. The Evening Standard reports that Mikel Arteta’s men are looking set to miss out on Bruno Guimaraes. Newcastle look to be pushing ahead with their move.

It has been reported that Arsenal are in talks with Ruben Neves about a potential move. But he is not the only Premier League player the Gunners have their eye on.

The Evening Standard reports that they could make a move for Luiz. Arteta knows the 23-year-old from his time at Manchester City. And the report suggests that he is stalling on signing a new contract at Aston Villa.

Interestingly, the London Evening Standard adds that another top-flight side have made a serious move for the Brazilian. In fact, it is claimed that the Villans have snubbed a £30 million offer from one team. It is noted that Arsenal were not the ones to make that offer.

Arsenal should avoid panic bid for Douglas Luiz as contract runs down

It is not clear whether Arsenal still face competition for Luiz. For example, if Newcastle made a bid, they may no longer still want the youngster should they land Guimaraes.

But if Arsenal do face a battle, the Gunners should be wary of panicking and making a ridiculous offer.

Luiz has done extremely well for the majority of his spell with Villa. At times, he has looked outstanding. Ian Wright has previously suggested that he has the potential to be ‘one of the best’ midfielders in the Premier League.

But his form has also dipped at various points. And given his contract expires in 2023, Arsenal may benefit from holding off on a move until the summer if Villa dig their heels in.
