Arsenal still hope that they can beat Manchester City to the signature of Savio, according to Brazilian outlet UOL, with the Gunners working on presenting a more ‘interesting’ offer.

Savio – also known as Savinho – is attracting attention after catching the eye for Atlético Mineiro. He has, so far, made 23 appearances for the first-team.

Fabrizio Romano recently suggested on Twitter that Manchester City were in talks to sign Savio. But he also claimed that Arsenal and the Red Bull group had been in contact over a possible move for the 17-year-old.

Interestingly, Romano then reported that he was close to joining the Cityzens. A medical has been scheduled. And the Premier League champions are ready to pay £5.4 million plus add-ons.

However, perhaps there could yet be a twist in the tale.

UOL reports that City are prepared to pay up to £10.4 million to sign Savio. He would then likely be loaned out to PSV Eindhoven.

But UOL adds that Arsenal remain in the running for Savio and have not yet given up on a deal. And they hope to present a better offer, both in terms of the financial and career progression points of view.

Coup for Arsenal to beat Manchester City to Savio deal

One of Arsenal’s best deals in recent years looks set to be the move for Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian has the potential to be anything he wants in the future.

So it makes sense that Arsenal are looking to South America once again. And it is encouraging that they are yet to admit defeat.

It would appear that City lead the race. They are clearly continuing to push for a deal.

However, it is intriguing that Arsenal are still hoping to snatch him from their grasp. It is an exciting time to join the Gunners. And they may fancy their chances of springing a surprise.
