Arsenal are set to launch a £30m bid for Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, according to talkSPORT.

The Englishman has been a target for the Gunners over the last few weeks. It was claimed by the Sheffield Star on Tuesday the Londoners were set to make an irresistible offer to the 23-year-old.

Arsenal are sweating over the future of Bernd Leno, who could yet depart the Emirates Stadium this summer. The Telegraph claimed at the start of June that Leno was expected to leave N5.

Ramsdale has been made the number one target ahead of Sam Johnstone for the goalkeeping position.

£30m would be a poor deal

Signing Ramsdale for £30m would be an atrocious deal from Arsenal.

While the player is talented and young, at just 23, he hasn’t shown the form to warrant a high price tag.

He struggled massively for the Blades last campaign as the Yorkshire outfit got relegated. Ramsdale made the joint second-most errors leading to goals in the top flight.

And he averaged a pass accuracy of 43.4% in the Premier League. When you take into account the Gunners’ passing style of play, he doesn’t seem the best fit.

Signing a backup (or potentially replacing Leno) is of massive importance. However, Ramsdale should be the last target on the team’s list, especially for the reported asking price.
