Report: Arsenal set to kill exit talk by handing Torreira a new deal
According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are preparing to reward Lucas Torreira with a new contract. The battling Uruguayan joined the Gunners last summer and impressed in his first season in English football. The 23-year-old midfielder shone for Arsenal and caught the eye with his tenacious, all-action style.
This new contract should also spell an end to the exit talk that has surrounded Torreira recently. Sky Sports recently reported that AC Milan were plotting a move to sign the 18-cap Uruguay international. However, Calciomercato have stated that Unai Emery is adamant that Torreira must remain at the Emirates Stadium. This is a stance that many Arsenal fans appear to agree with.

This move also suggests that Arsenal are becoming more savvy with their contract management. Having seen the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck recently leave the club as free agents, this was an area the Gunners urgently needed to improve in. It looks as though Emery’s team and the club hierarchy are learning lessons from past mistakes.
