Arsenal have reportedly rekindled their interest in Carlos Soler, according to a report in El Desmarque.

The Valencia ace, who turned 24 on Saturday, has been linked with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners since last year.

While no move came to fruition in 2020, Soler has developed into a superb player with an impressive goal and assist tally.

This season alone, the Spaniard – as yet uncapped for La Roja – has claimed six goals and five assists from just 13 games in all competitions.

As important as Soler is to Valencia, the La Liga club is reported to be in dire straits financially and, according to El Desmarque, may be willing to accept a cut-price fee for the player.

The central midfielder, who can also play on the right flank, signed a new contract at Valencia in December 2019, complete with €150million (around £133million) release clause, which takes him to 2023.

However, given Valencia’s alleged financial issues, they could find themselves having to make a big decision on whether to cash in on their asset, a potential situation many suitors will be monitoring with interest.

Valencia legend Fernando Gomez told Tribal Football last year: “Carlos is very similar to Ferran (Torres), with less skill, but with a lot of vision and defensive work that, added to his offensive and technical profile, makes him a very complete player.”

He then followed it up with comments that could well have piqued the Gunners’ interest, namely: “Arsenal have been playing attractive and colourful football for many years. Carlos knows how to play that kind of football.”
