Report: Arsenal want to sign uncapped player who’s more expensive than Jadon Sancho

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is interested in bringing Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler to the Emirates Stadium this summer, according to a report in The Mirror.

The Gunners have endured a difficult season and, come the summer, an overhaul of the playing squad is believed to be on the cards.

The report in The Mirror claims that Soler is high up on Arsenal’s wishlist, despite having signed a new contract at Valencia just before Christmas (Transfermarkt).

In addition, the 23-year-old’s new deal is thought to contain a €150million (£140million) release clause, but that seemingly hasn’t put the Gunners off making a move for the Spaniard.

The report claims that Arsenal have already laid out the groundwork by registering their interest to Valencia before the January window and will revisit the interest in the summer.

With regards to the huge release clause, the Gunners are believed to have drawn up a list of players they could sell in order to raise funds.

Mentioned in the report are Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who will have 12 months left on his contract in the summer, as well as Alexandre Lacazette, who is thought to want Champions League football.

Another player mentioned is Matteo Guendouzi, who could potentially raise a big sum given his age, talent and potential, and is also believed to have fallen out with Arteta.

According to the report, Soler is regarded as one of Spain’s best young prospects and tipped for the senior national team.

Nonetheless, the reported £140million fee Arsenal would have to pay is a gargantuan amount of money to spend on a player who is still relatively raw, has a pretty meagre tally of 11 goals and 17 assists in 137 club games, and hasn’t even made the national team.

When you take into account that Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho – 86 club appearances, 30 goals, 40 assists, 11 England caps, two international goals and nearly four years younger than Soler – is seemingly valued at £120million by his parent club (Sky Sports), you can’t help but think the Soler report is a tad outlandish.
