Report: Arsenal open contract talks with £80k-p/w 'warrior'; player is happy in London
Arsenal have opened contract talks with Kieran Tierney, according to football.london.
The publication is claiming that the Gunners left-back is happy in London. Technical director Edu is waiting for the board to sign off on the contract for the 24-year-old.
Tierney enjoyed a fantastic season despite Arsenal’s eighth-place, trophyless campaign.
Mikel Arteta has previously lauded the Scotland international, claiming he is a future Arsenal captain.
The Scotsman was just as complimentary, calling the former Manchester City coach a ‘genius’.
He played 27 times in the Premier League and starred on the left-hand side, creating numerous chances for teammates.
TBR View: Tierney is worth the contract extension for Arsenal
His all-round performances makes him a valuable asset to Arteta’s side.
Tierney is a threat at the back as well as going forward and well worth his contract extension at Arsenal.
The 24-year-old only registered just five assists throughout all competitions, which proved a surprised after his performances.
His crosses into the box throughout the season created many chances for the Gunners. However, it’s not reflected on the stats sheet after some poor finishing last term.
The defender is also good at the back, where his intelligence and nous has helped shore up the backline.
Arsenal’s defence has improved drastically since the arrival of the former Celtic man. They possessed the third-best defensive record in the top-flight last season, and it’s not surprise Tierney played a huge role.
Handing the fullback a new contract is the first step to the way back to the top.
Arsenal need to tie down their best defensive player, who could well turn into their future captain in years to come.
