Arsenal are one step away from sealing a deal for Ben White, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian has confirmed that a deal will soon conclude with the Gunners paying Brighton £50m.

Arsenal have been chasing White for much of the transfer window. The club were given a scare after news claimed Everton and Manchester City were interested in the ace.

However, it seems as though Mikel Arteta’s side have staved off interest from the Premier League rivals.

White is currently away with England at Euro 2020. The 23-year-old has yet to make an appearance at the tournament after replacing injury-stricken Trent Alexander Arnold.

White will be the only big deal this window for Arsenal

Financial results released in March revealed that the Gunners will need to sell before they can buy.

It highlighted just how badly the club was hit by the Coronavirus pandemic. Stadiums shut down, matchday revenue non-existent, the north London giants suffered a lot.

All in all, it means the Gunners probably don’t have a lot to spend this window.

The £50m spent on White will be the most Arsenal will spend this transfer market. And given the number of positions that needs strengthening, it’s raise question over the deal.

Is there justification for spending that much on a centre-back? When the position is already saturated?

The answer is no, especially after the team finished with the third-best defence last year.
