Report: Arsenal may pursue deal for Euro 2020 goalscorer; earns £7m-a-year
Arsenal may yet decide to pursue a move for Wales and Juventus midfielder, Aaron Ramsey, during the summer window.
The Gunners are looking to bring in a number of fresh face this summer as Mikel Arteta overhauls the squad. Ramsey has been mentioned in passing on more tha one occasion. Indeed, it has been claimed the Welshman is open to moving back to the Premier League.
And according to a report from ESPN, that move could be back to Arsenal.
It is claimed the Gunners are open to bringing Ramsey back if they cannot land some of their top targets in midfield. The likes of Martin Odegaard and James Maddison, among the first-choice signings for Arteta.
ESPN suggest that while Arsenal aren’t actively pursuing Ramsey at this very moment, they could change their mind. The player, too, is said to not be ruling out an emotional return to The Emirates.
Ramsey starred for Wales this week in their 2-0 Euros win. His opening goal displayed the class and touch so many Gunners fans know well.
He scored 65 goals for Arsenal in 371 games, per Transfermarkt. That record, of course, is not something to be sniffed at.
Arsenal could do far worse than Aaron Ramsey but money an issue
There’s no point in Gunners fans being overly worried about the ‘will they, won’t they’ aspect of Ramsey. If he comes in, great. If he doesn’t, it’s not the end of the world either.
One issue Arsenal might have is Ramsey’s wages. He’s said to earn around £7m-a-year in Turin. That equates to around £185k-a-week.
Given his age and the fact Arsenal might want to give some younger players a chance, it gives the club a tricky call to make. They’ve already been burned with older players such as Willian, of course.
However, Ramsey does score goals, and he knows the club. If he does come, then he’d still improve this Arsenal team.
