Report: Arsenal make Sven Botman enquiry in last few hours
Arsenal have made an enquiry for Sven Botman in the last few hours, according to a report from La Repubblica, with Lille wanting AC Milan to get on with agreeing a deal.
Botman has attracted plenty of interest this summer. Milan had been in pole position to sign the 22-year-old. However, reports claimed that they are yet to agree a fee for the Dutchman.
Tottenham have enquired about the centre-back. But it seems that Newcastle are the Premier League side most likely to sign Botman.
Reports on Thursday claimed that the Magpies have agreed a £35 million fee for him. They have also put a five-year contract on the table. But Botman still has reservations about moving to St James’ Park.
La Repubblica reports that Botman wants to join Milan. But another option has just arrived on the table. The report suggests that both Arsenal and Manchester United have made contact in the last few hours.
Arsenal enquiry for Botman
Arsenal’s centre-back options are set to be strengthened ahead of next season. William Saliba is set to return to the Emirates after another successful loan spell.
Mikel Arteta would perhaps want cover on the left. Gabriel Magalhaes has been superb. But they need further depth as they prepare to return to European competition.
Botman would tick the box for being a left-footed centre-back. And clearly, he is attracting attention from many of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Paulo Maldini believes that he is a ‘great player‘. And that is certainly something that carries a lot of weight, coming from one of the best defenders Europe has ever seen.
It does appear that Arsenal have a lot of work to do with Milan and Newcastle battling over Botman. But the longer the uncertainty continues, the more optimistic the Gunners may perhaps come.
