Report: Arsenal make offer for Lyon ace Houssem Aouar
Arsenal have made an offer for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, according to Le10sport.
The French-born ace has been a long-term target for the Gunners. He was close to securing a move to the Emirates Stadium last summer, however, the two clubs couldn’t agree a fee.
Reports in October 2020 revealed a move for the France youth international broke down due to the demands of his agent.
Speaking about the failed move himself, Aouar claimed that he wanted to continue his ‘adventure’ with Lyon.
The report from the French publication claims the Ligue 1 giants want between €25m and €30m (£21.4m-£25.7m) for the 23-year-old.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side face a fight to complete a deal with PSG and Atletico Madrid also interested.
Arsenal would be bonkers not make an offer for Aouar amid low asking price
We haven’t always known the north London giants for conducting shrewd business in the transfer market.
This summer’s chase of Ben White for a staggering £50m is just one example of that.
However, Arsenal would be bonkers not to make an offer for Aouar amid the reported asking price.
His performances during the 2020 Champions League quarter-finals versus Manchester City were a sign of his quality.
The ace’s ability to carry the ball out of midfield and into the final third brought back memories of a young Santi Cazorla. A player Arsenal is yet to replace at the heart of the team.
Furthermore, his eye for a pass and attacking contribution would add quality in midfield.
All in all, for the reported price, Arsenal need to ensure they can complete a move for the ace this summer.
