Arsenal have reportedly made an informal enquiry for Leicester City ace James Maddison.

What’s the story?

According to football.london, the Gunners have made an informal enquiry through intermediaries for the ace.

However, the £60m asking price from Brendan Rodgers’ men is likely to be a ‘sticking point’ for the side. A move will only be possible through player sales, claims the publication.

The Gunners have been extensively linked with a move for the Englishman. Maddison reportedly wants a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Players will be up for offer as part of a potential deal for the play-maker, as reported by The Metro.

Odegaard and Maddison are two different options

Amid their enquiry, it seems Arsenal are targeting two very different players in Maddison and Martin Odegaard.

The same report claims Arteta’s side is failing to give up on their chase for the midfielder.

The Norwegian proves a more methodical player, who can split open defences. Meanwhile, the £110k-per-week England international is more direct and far more of a threat in the final third.

Both would add different qualities to Mikel Arteta’s attack. However, there is one clear winner.

Signing Maddison ahead of Odegaard has to be the priority this summer.

Adding a goal threat is more crucial than someone who can split defences.

More crucially, the Foxes ace has far more Premier League experience.
