Report: Growing encouragement deal can be completed for Arsenal linked James Maddison

There is growing encouragement from all sides a deal for Arsenal linked ace James Maddison can be completed.

According to Pete O’Rourke, the Gunners, Leicester and the player’s representatives believe a deal can happen this summer.

Maddison endured a tough season by his very high standards last season. A hip injury meant the play-maker started the campaign on the bench for the Foxes.

Despite those issues, the 24-year-old still shone, scoring 11 times and registering 10 assists across all competitions. The ace also helped Leicester end their long wait for the FA Cup as the Midlanders beat Chelsea 1-0 in the final.

It is a potential deal that has been backed by club legend Paul Merson.

When talking about the midfielder, O’Rourke told The Football Terrace: “They [Arsenal] are getting encouraging signs something could be done with James Maddison, which people thought was a fantasy. There’s a bit of encouragement from Leicester, if Arsenal offers the right deal, they’ll happily take it, but, it’ll be on their terms.

“I know his representatives are in discussions with Arsenal to see if they can get this deal done. I think the player as well fancies the move, maybe going to Arsenal and being the main man.”

Arsenal can plug Ozil void with Maddison

Arsenal can plug the hole left by Mesut Ozil with the signing of Maddison amid talks of encouragement.

The midfielder has the talent to fill the Ozil-sized hole in the first-team squad. He was in impressive form for the Foxes despite playing a bit-part role throughout the campaign.

His tally of 10 assists is joint-most when compared to Mikel Arteta’s men. However, his average of 2.2 key passes per league game is almost double the next highest Gunners man.

The news that all sides are encouraged about a deal heightens hope. It would be a monstrous transfer for Arteta, who will be hoping to introduce some creative nous to the team ahead of next season.
