Report: Arsenal make contact with representatives of Isak

Arsenal have made contact with the representatives of Alexander Isak over a potential summer move, but Sport reports that the striker is planning to wait and see whether Barcelona make a bid before entering further talks with the Gunners.

Isak has been linked with a potential move to the Emirates for some time. Of course, Arsenal simply have to sign at least one new striker at the end of the season.

Previous reports claimed that the Gunners are prepared to sign both Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the summer. And it would now appear that they have stepped up their bid to sign the Swede.

Sport reports that Arsenal have been in contact with his representatives. However, his release clause of £66.7 million is likely to prove a problem for the Gunners.

Sport suggests that Arsenal do not believe that they can do a deal for Isak unless Real Sociedad are willing to negotiate the price.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are also a problem for Mikel Arteta’s men. Isak wants to move to the Nou Camp. And therefore, he is waiting to see whether the Catalan giants make a move before holding anymore talks with Arsenal.

Arsenal need to prioritise other options with Isak not convinced about Emirates move

Isak looks to have serious potential. Gary Lineker previously labelled him an ‘exceptional‘ striker. And he is still only 22 years of age.

Having said that, he has only scored four La Liga goals this term. And he has only scored one league goal since the start of November.

Paying anything like £60 million would make a deal risky too. So Arsenal should be wary of putting too much energy into trying to sign Isak.

They have reportedly opened talks with Lille over Jonathan David, who will cost less. And there are other names in the frame.

So if Arsenal are going to have to spend £66.7 million to provide Isak with what appears to be his backup move, perhaps they would be better off looking elsewhere.
