Report: Arsenal join race to sign Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina
According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal have joined the likes of Spurs in the race for Fiorentina defender, Nikola Milenkovic.
The Serbian defender, 23, was admired by Jose Mourinho while he was in charge at Spurs. But a deal never got over the line, and La Viola apparently want around £38m for their man this summer.
La Nazione claimed at the back end of last year that Spurs were keen on Milenkovic. According to that report, Mourinho had been watching Milenkovic for a number of years, and even tried to take him to Manchester United.
But with no movement as yet, it appears Arsenal have now joined the race. The Gunners are once again looking at a bit of a summer overhaul and with David Luiz leaving, may well want a long-term replacement.
Milenkovic has plenty of experience despite his young age. He’s won 28 caps already for Serbia, as well as appearing over 130 times in Serie A.
TBR View: Milenkovic a class act, even at £38m
The best players cost big money and it looks like Fiorentina are simply trying to protect themselves here. Milenkovic is that good and that important for them, that they’re right to demand big money.
Arsenal need some top players, though. And if they can sell a few to raise a bit more money, then landing Milenkovic for just shy of £40m might not actually be too big a deal.
He’s certainly a player to watch, and certainly someone who can succeed at PL level.
