Report: Arsenal interest in signing £34m star from PL rival has cooled significantly

Ruben Neves has seen interest from Arsenal cool significantly in recent weeks as the Gunners pursue the likes of Albert Sambi Lokonga, according to a report from Football London.

Neves has been linked with an Emirates switch throughout the summer. It was claimed last month that Arsenal were working on a deal for the 24-year-old.

The Daily Mail suggested that Wolves were braced for an offer for the £34 million-rated Portuguese. They are reportedly open to selling the midfielder.

However, little seemed to come of those reports. And it is now being suggested by Football London that Arsenal’s interest has cooled significantly.

It must be noted that reports in Portugal over the weekend claimed that talks were actually underway. So perhaps there is still a chance that a deal could take place.

However, Football London notes that they have prioritised other targets such as Lokonga.

And with a deal for Lokonga seemingly imminent, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal feel there is any need to target Neves.

Cooling Neves interest may hint at how highly Arsenal rate Lokonga

It may disappoint some that Arsenal appear to be looking elsewhere. Neves has been an amazing signing for Wolves. And he should only now be approaching his peak.

Unlike Lokonga, he also boasts a lot of Premier League experience.

So it may say a lot about Lokonga. The 21-year-old is clearly a huge talent. He has captained Anderlecht. And he was on Belgium’s stand-by list for Euro 2020.

But he is a much younger player. And a move for some may seem like a much greater gamble.

But surely Arsenal are extremely confident about what the future holds for Lokonga if they are prepared to cool their interest in Neves.
