'£50m plus', 'don't': Some fans shocked as Arsenal reportedly in talks over Carrick-like player
Arsenal are reportedly in talks over Ruben Neves ahead of a potential move, and some Wolves fans aren’t happy in the slightest.
Gianluca Di Marzio claimed earlier this week that Neves is the Gunners’ first choice to replace Granit Xhaka.
And now, Portuguese outlet Record has reported that Arsenal and Wolves are “already” in discussions over Neves.
Comparisons with Scholes, Pirlo and Carrick
The 24-year-old is a fan favourite at Molineux, having shone in old gold since his arrival four years ago.
Neves joined Wolves from Porto in 2017 and helped the club to promotion from the Championship into the Premier League.
He has clocked up 176 appearances in old gold, registering 20 goals and 10 assists.
Neves is a superb passer of the ball, and in May 2019, 90Min noted his similarities with some legendary midfielders.
“He draws comparisons with the likes of Xabi Alonso, Paul Scholes, and Andrea Pirlo – the latter of which Neves has confessed to modelling himself after,” they wrote.
People have also made comparisons between Neves and the likes of Scholes, plus fellow Manchester United icon Michael Carrick.
Rueben neves he reminds me of carrick.— Jonathan Kenchen (@smashg0rd0n) March 23, 2021
Yet everyone wants Rice,we shld be all over Neves, shld be our first option for holding MF,reminds me more of Carrick,he's far a better player than https://t.co/qnvIEx9mXE won't be much of an imprvtmt with Rice/McT or Rice/Fred pivot.but Neves will be comfortable with any of them— Yadz (@yahayaomar77) April 13, 2021
What do you think about Ruben Neves, reminds me of Scholes with his passing and shooting range.— Ng Nguyen (@nn99519) April 26, 2021
I think he would be a brilliant signing. An absolute bargain at that price. Still only 24 proven in the Premier League. He reminds me of Carrick. People say that Neves can't play as a DM well that's rubbish. Tbh him or Bissouma would be brilliant signings for a bargain price too— Chris Silvester (@ChrisSilveste14) May 25, 2021
Why not Neves??? He reminds me of Carrick & we all knew how underrated Carrick was for us— Chris Silvester (@ChrisSilveste14) June 5, 2021
The Telegraph reported in June that Wolves want at least £40million for Neves.
However, some fans reckon their club should aim for at least £50million, while others wouldn’t sell at all.
Anything less than £50m I’ll be very disappointed and none of this £35m plus addons, we only sell for pure hard cash of £50m +— banksy *not the artist* 🐺🏴 (@secretwolf11) July 10, 2021
If we're being realistic both us and Arsenal are aiming for Europa League next season. Unless it's +£50m why sell? 🤷♂️— Pat Lane (@PatLane92) July 10, 2021
Do not do Arsenal any favours on price .. I thought they were supposed to be a top European giant.. screw them for at least 50m— Paul 🏴🐺🇪🇦🐺🇵🇹🐺 (@PaulBeest) July 10, 2021
50 Million is a fair valuation. Nothing less.— Mo Hussain (@MoHussain19) July 10, 2021
£60m I’d say— Dan Vincent 🐺💛🖤🇵🇹🇲🇽 (@Dan__Vincent) July 10, 2021
