Arsenal are in talks to appoint the talent spotter responsible for the discovery of Kylian Mbappe, according to RMC Sport, via Get French Football News.

The Gunners will face stiff competition for his services. Real Madrid are also thought to want to hire him.

It has been anticipated that Campos would check in at Nice, although that doesn’t appear to be the case.

The 56-year-old is fancied by Arsenal. At this stage, however, it’s unsure whether they would hand him a director of football or a scouting title.

Campos managed several clubs in Portugal before being appointed by Jose Mourinho as a scout in 2012 when he was at Real Madrid.

After leaving Los Blancos he became director of football at Monaco. His work saw the team lift the Ligue 1 title in 2017.

His portfolio of glittering recruits is extensive. Falcao, Bernardo Silva and Fabinho were all signed on his watch with the French outfit.

Campos then headed for Lille in 2017 and that culminated in the team winning the title last month.

It seems unlikely that Arsenal would get rid of Edu from his role behind the scenes.

With that in mind, Campos would be hired to work alongside the former midfielder and reshape the Arsenal squad.

Campos to Arsenal: Gunners need to complete deal

What an appointment this would be for the Gunners if a deal can be done.

Even as a scout or in a director of football role, it would represent a real coup for the Gunners.

Arsenal are falling further behind their rivals and look a million miles away from challenging for major honours.

As a result, the club is in desperate need of a reshuffle and that has to start behind the scenes.

Campos’ record of signing quality players is up there with the best in world football and Arsenal have to grasp this opportunity.
