Arsenal have now opened talks to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu, but The Athletic reports that players will have to be moved on first.
The Gunners looked set to be primarily focused on offloading members of Mikel Arteta’s squad on deadline day.

Hector Bellerin is reportedly set to join Real Betis. Meanwhile, Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been linked with a move to Everton.
And it appears that freeing up space in the squad is going to be crucial if Edu is going to make further signings.
According to The Athletic, the Gunners are now in talks to sign Tomiyasu. It is claimed that a move is dependent on Arsenal moving players on.

Tomiyasu has been heavily linked with a move to England this summer. In fact, it was previously claimed that he had agreed personal terms with Spurs at one stage.
Tottenham look set to sign Emerson Royal. And that appears to have left the door partially open for Arsenal to make their move for the Japan international.
Tomiyasu could be a smart signing for Arsenal as talks begin
Tomiyasu has impressed with Bologna in Serie A. He is a tough-tackling, pacy right-back also capable of playing at centre-back.
The defender does not turn 23 until November. And yet, he has already made over 150 appearances during his club career. He has also played for his country on a number of occasions.
Arsenal fans may have their concerns about signing another young player with potential.
But like the deals for Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Aaron Ramsdale, a move for Tomiyasu has the potential to be a very good bit of business in the years to come.
In fairness, that is probably one of the last things supporters want to hear.
