Report: Arsenal in talks to sign Arthur for several days now

Arsenal have been in talks to sign Arthur Melo from Juventus for several days now, with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that the Gunners have informed the Old Lady that they are prepared to sign him permanently.

Arthur has been linked with Arsenal for some time now. And it seemed that he may be about to make the move during the January transfer window.

Reports claimed that Edu agreed terms on a loan deal for the Brazilian. However, the Arsenal hierarchy then decided against a move for the 25-year-old.

It now appears that a deal is now back on the agenda. In fact, talks have been underway for some time.

Tuttomercatoweb reports that Arsenal and Juventus have been in talks for several days now. And, crucially, the Gunners have informed the Serie A giants that they are prepared to pay to sign permanently.

Personal terms with Arthur have been in place for a little while now. Arsenal have agreed to pay the former Barcelona man almost £82,000-a-week.

Juventus meanwhile, want a fee of between £17 million and £25.4 million for Arthur. There is rival interest from two other Premier League sides.

The Old Lady are also interested in Gabriel Magalhaes. So they are hoping that talks over Arthur could lead to discussions about the centre-back also.

Arsenal in Arthur talks

The last few months have certainly shown that Arsenal need more options in midfield. Their squad has been stretched of late. And unfortunately, that has cost the Gunners at the end of the Premier League season.

Arthur is an ‘incredible‘ player. And it would appear that he is not going to cost a fortune.

So Arsenal fans may be excited to hear that talks are back underway. However, they will be concerned about Juventus’ desire to have Gabriel move the other way.
