Arsenal have an offer already on the table for French under-21 defender, Malang Sarr, after the 21-year-old saw his time with Nice come to an end this week.
According to Marca, Sarr has left the French outfit after letting his contract run down. And that has seen a number of clubs declare their interest in the defender, with Arsenal and RB Leipzig among those named by Marca.
Sarr, who has six caps for the France under-21 team, is seen as yet another in a long line of young prospects to emerge from the country in recent years. Indeed, despite his age, Sarr has already racked up well in excess of over 100 appearances in his career.
This season has seen him start 16 times out of the 23 Ligue 1 appearances he made, including being named skipper for the game with Toulouse back in February. (Transfermarkt)
Arsenal are in the market for new players this summer. Mikel Arteta has slowly started to get things going for the Gunners, and he could see Sarr as an ideal addition.
A sound addition to an ageing and inconsistent defence – TBR View
While Arsenal have looked a bit better under Arteta since he deployed a back three, there is a real need for the club to bring in some long-term options in defence.
They do have William Saliba, who looks to be the real deal, so the addition of Sarr could give them a solid foundation to build on in the coming seasons.
Sarr has been exceptional in Nice but is clearly ready for the next step. In terms of ideal Arsenal signings who fit the bill, the 21-year-old appears to be a great catch.
Arsenal do, however, face a fight. Both Newcastle and Everton have also been credited with an interest in the youngster in recent weeks.
