Arsenal are eyeing a move for Kieran Trippier with Manchester United’s pursuit of the right-back stalling over his asking price, according to a report from The Sun.

The Gunners are still expecting the departure of £110,000-a-week star Hector Bellerin this summer. And it appears that Trippier could be the man who replaces him at the Emirates.

It had appeared for some time that the former Spurs star may be Old Trafford-bound. However, The Sun suggests that agreeing a fee has proved to be a problem for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

They reportedly want to pay £20 million for the England international. Atleti meanwhile, value the 30-year-old at £34 million.

The Sun notes that his contract has two years remaining. Diego Simeone is even keen for the La Liga champions to offer him fresh terms.

Arsenal have reportedly made Trippier their top target in the right-back position. It is claimed that they have made contact with Atletico over a possible move.

Arsenal surely unlikely to get much closer to asking price for Kieran Trippier

Trippier enjoyed an outstanding year in the Spanish capital. And he played his part in England reaching the Euro 2020 final.

He can also play on either side of the defence. So you can understand why he may be Mikel Arteta’s top target to replace Bellerin.

Having said that, it is hard to imagine the Gunners offering a lot more than United were prepared to.

Trippier turns 31 in September. And with two years left on his deal, Atletico are asking for a lot.

Arsenal have options in both full-back roles. Calum Chambers impressed towards the end of last season. Kieran Tierney meanwhile, continues to be touted as a future captain by many fans.

Trippier would be a better option than Chambers. But given the potential outlay, as well as the other areas for concern for Arteta this summer, it is hard to see Arsenal getting a lot closer to his asking price.
