Arsenal could consider offers of just £5 million for Bernd Leno this summer, but the Daily Star reports that the German is not keen on joining Newcastle United.

Leno looks likely to leave the Gunners at the end of the season. He has been Aaron Ramsdale’s understudy for the large majority of the campaign, only returning now that Ramsdale is injured.

Reports have claimed that Newcastle want Leno this summer. The Magpies are on the lookout for a new number one.

Interestingly, it was suggested in January that the 30-year-old was interested in moving to St James’ Park. However, his stance has seemingly changed with Arsenal ready to sanction his departure.

The Daily Star reports that Arsenal could accept just £5 million for Leno. But the goalkeeper would prefer to return to the Bundesliga and is ready to snub Newcastle.

Could return to European football open door for Leno to stay at Arsenal?

It does make sense for Leno to leave. He is arguably too good to be an understudy. And if a club offers him the number one spot, he is surely going to want to leave.

However, Arsenal are going to be back in Europe next year, you would imagine. And they may even have Champions League football to look forward to.

That offers Mikel Arteta an opportunity to use both goalkeepers fairly frequently. So perhaps it is not out of the question for Arsenal to keep Leno next year.

Arteta has previously lauded him as ‘magnificent‘. So the Gunners probably would not mind if he stayed for another year.
