Arsenal transfer news: Gunners could move for Rafael Leao after Chelsea interest

Arsenal are once against searching for a forward in January after missing out on their number one target.

Mykhaylo Mudryk’s move to Chelsea has meant Arsenal will now have to go back into the market to find their ideal reinforcement.

A report from the Daily Mail has suggested they could move for a player who has admitted he’s a fan of the Gunners.

Losing Gabriel Jesus to injury at the World Cup has forced Arsenal to look for new recruits.

Eddie Nketiah has stepped up brilliantly in his place, but they’re currently short of quality cover.

It’s hard to see any new signing taking Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Martinelli’s place in the side right now.

However, Arsenal need more cover if they’re hoping to keep their title hopes alive.

Daily Mail now suggest that Arsenal could move for AC Milan winger Rafael Leao.

The 23-year-old has previously said that he likes Arsenal, and now a move could be on the cards.

Arsenal could move for Leao

The report states that, ‘the sought-after star has also been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea in the past but Arsenal could now swoop in.’

Rafael Leao’s current contract at Milan ends in 2024, and so far, negotiations have been difficult.

90min reported last month that Leao had rejected the Italian club’s first contract offer.

The ‘electric’ winger shone for Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar last month.

He scored twice for his country before they were eliminated by Morocco in the quarter-finals.

As the Daily Mail states, Leao has been one of the many players on Todd Boehly’s radar at Chelsea.

After they gazumped Arsenal in their pursuit of Mudryk, Arsenal fans would love to get one over on Chelsea.

If Arsenal could move for Leao after of their London rivals this month, it would be a very welcome move.

The winger is exciting to watch and very direct, but may need some time to adapt to Mikel Arteta’s system.

With his future in Italy up in the air, Milan could be tempted to cut their losses and sell Leao if the right offer comes in.
