Report: Arsenal considering move for Matheus Cunha after Jesus blow

Arsenal are considering a move for Matheus Cunha ahead of the January transfer window following the injury sustained by Gabriel Jesus, according to a report from The Athletic.

The Athletic suggests that Cunha is likely to be on his way to the Premier League next month. He has not completed 90 minutes in any La Liga game for Atletico Madrid so far this season.

His form saw the 23-year-old miss out on the World Cup squad for Brazil. And it seems that he is now ready to leave the Spanish capital, with a host of sides keen on landing him.

Arsenal considering Cunha move

According to The Athletic, Wolves were growing optimistic that they could bring Cunha to Molineux. They are ready to offer the forward the most lucrative deal. And it is noted that he has a lot of respect for new Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui.

But there is plenty of interest elsewhere. Leeds want Cunha, while Everton and Aston Villa are also admirers.

And then there is Arsenal. The Athletic reports that the Gunners are weighing up whether to join the battle for Cunha.

Of course, Mikel Arteta is facing up to the fact that Jesus could miss several months after sustaining an injury at the World Cup.

Certainly, it does appear that Arsenal cannot afford to let the January window close without strengthening up front.

Cunha has been labelled an ‘extraordinary‘ talent. And he would not cost a huge sum given that he has had a difficult time with Atleti.

He has not found the back of the net in La Liga this season. So it would be a huge task for Cunha to step into the void left by Jesus.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal do indeed make a move for Cunha in the coming weeks.
