Report: Arsenal confident over Smith Rowe contract
Arsenal remain confident that Emile Smith Rowe will sign a new contract, according to Football London, amid links with Aston Villa this week.
Smith Rowe is one of the few Arsenal players who can hold his head up high after a disappointing campaign at the Emirates.
The 20-year-old established himself as a key man for Mikel Arteta’s side after really breaking into the team around the turn of the year.
As noted by Football London, his current terms expire in 2023.
But a spanner was thrown into the works in the last few days.
The Telegraph claimed that Aston Villa want Smith Rowe. It was suggested that he is seen as a potential option as Dean Smith looks to add greater creativity to his ranks.
In truth, Arsenal fans would be forgiven for writing off the links anyway. Villa would surely have to make a ridiculous offer to stand a chance of a deal.
But it does indeed appear that a move is highly unlikely. Football London is now reporting that Arsenal are confident about keeping Smith Rowe.
Arsenal agreeing new contract with Smith Rowe would hand Gunners a huge lift
It did always seem incredibly difficult to imagine Villa luring Smith Rowe away.
Nevertheless, Arsenal fans will be relieved to read Football London’s update.
He looks to be an outstanding talent. And extending his terms could be as important to Arsenal as bringing in a new signing.
He has the potential to be a key man for some time at the Emirates. It is already easy to forget that he was on the periphery of the squad heading into this season.
He was on loan in the Championship this time last year. And it would be some time before he was a regular in Arteta’s plans.
But now, it is hard to imagine Arteta not putting his full faith in Smith Rowe.
