North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are battling to sign 18-year-old RB Salzburg striker Roko Simic.

That’s according to Goal, who have named the teenager in their NXGN 2022: The 50 best wonderkids in football list.

The 18-year-old, son of Croatian legend Dario Simic, became the youngest scorer in Lokomotiva Zagreb’s history in the 2020/21 season.

That helped him secure a big move to Austrian giants RB Salzburg, who then loaned him out to second-tier side FC Liefering.

Arsenal and Tottenham-linked Roko Simic is like Dusan Vlahovic

Arsenal and Tottenham tried to sign Dusan Vlahovic for months. Both clubs were keen to bring the Serbian in from Fiorentina, but Juventus were the ones who secured his signature in the January transfer window.

With Vlahovic no longer an option for the two Noth London sides, they are reportedly looking at someone who can become just as good as him in a few years’ time.

It looks like Simic is that player. Labelled by Nikica Jelavic as a ‘world class’ striker in the making and one of Croatia’s ‘greatest talents’, the 18-year-old is definitely one to keep an eye on.

The teenager has been compared to both Erling Haaland and Vlahovic, and his goal return this season – 12 goals in 12 league starts – shows why Arsenal, Spurs and even Real Madrid are interested in signing him.

TBR View:

Simic is an extraordinary talent and if the NXGN list is anything to go by, he’s the 36th best young player in the whole world.

The teenager is destined to become a top player in the coming years, but a move to Arsenal or Tottenham is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Simic will return to Salzburg in the summer and there’s a good chance he’ll be given a chance in the first-team there.

A brilliant season or two there will make him ready for a move to one of Europe’s top leagues, and it won’t be a surprise to see Arsenal and Tottenham splash big money on him then.
