Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, with Atalanta dropping out of the race for the forward.
The Gunners are keen on bringing Abraham to The Emirates, as they look to add some more firepower to Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad. Reports a few weeks back suggested Arsenal wanted Abraham, who Chelsea value at around the £40m mark.
Since then, further rumours have continued to link the Gunners with Abraham. However, they face competition from Italy, and it was expected that Atalanta would challenge.

But Di Marzio have claimed that Atalanta are now out of the running entirely for Abraham. Instead, it is believed to be Jose Mourinho’s Roma who are the main competition for Arsenal.
Mourinho is keen on adding new players himself following his summer move to the Italian capital. He already tried to sign Granit Xhaka, with Abraham the latest PL player added to his list.
Arsenal, then, seem to be a in head to head battle with the former Manchester United and Spurs boss to get a deal done for Abraham.
Door ajar for Arsenal, time to act is now
Atalanta would have offered Abraham Champions League football and it could have tempted the forward. However, with them now out of the picture, Arsenal have an ideal chance to move.
Yes, it’s £40m on a striker. But the Gunners need one, with both Lacazette and Aubameyang not getting any younger and eating up big wages.
If ever Arsenal had a chance to get Abraham, it’s now. And while the lure of Mourinho will be an obstacle, the Gunners can surely overcome it.
