Arsenal transfer: Gunners reportedly want £40m-rated striker from London rivals Chelsea
Abraham was snubbed for the Champions League Final in May. As a result, he is expected to fall down the pecking order once Thomas Tuchel has shuffled his strikeforce this summer.
The 23-year-old scored 12 goals and registered six assists from his 32 appearances in all competitions during 2020/21. He started just 18 of his total outings.
Arsenal are in the market for a new striker of their own. Doubts surround Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah with both players thought to be available for transfer.
Then there is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Boss Mikel Arteta often prefers to play him out wide and a new focal point is required up top.
Abraham was a regular in the Chelsea team during the 2019/20 campaign. Under Frank Lampard’s management, he managed 18 goals and claimed six assists.
Now, it seems as though Arsenal are ready to swoop on their London rivals in an attempt to take the £82,000-a-week player to the Emirates Stadium.
Back in October 2019, Rio Ferdinand had some high praise for Abraham. He said after a Champions League performance: “First half, one ball went up to him, Didier Drogba-esque, chests it down for someone, runs on for the next phase – I think he’s developing nicely and he’s a threat.”
Abraham to Arsenal: Arteta could complete massive coup
The Gunners fans might not want to believe it but if they can snare Abraham whilst not playing in European competition, it would represent a real coup.
At 23 he has bags of time to continue realising his potential and he’s proved that he knows where the net is.
He would also offer Arsenal something a little bit different in attack and offer them a physical presence in the final third.
Signing him won’t come easy. A fee of £40 million will be expected by Chelsea and he’ll also fancy a decent wage too.
Abraham is a decent Premier League striker. As a result, the Gunners would be wise to take him to the Emirates Stadium this summer and steal a march on their rivals.
