Report: Arsenal and Newcastle make their move for Fabian Ruiz

Arsenal and Newcastle United have made their move for Fabian Ruiz, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that Napoli do not want to lose the midfielder on a free next year.

Ruiz is looking set to leave Naples in the coming weeks. His contract at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona expires at the end of next season.

The Serie A side want £25.8 million for the Spain international. And a number of Premier League sides have now confirmed their interest in the 26-year-old.

Corriere dello Sport reports that Arsenal, Newcastle, Manchester City and Manchester United have all made their move for Ruiz.

Arsenal’s bid may not come as a big surprise to supporters. Reports recently claimed that the Gunners were the side most interested in signing the former Real Betis star.

Meanwhile, Newcastle reportedly offered £42 million in January. But clearly, both clubs are going to have to see off some significant competition.

It is little surprise that Ruiz is attracting so much attention in this window. He has established himself as one of the finest central midfielders around.

Ruiz is one of the best passers and creators in Europe right now. Former Real Betis boss Quique Setein described his development as ‘spectacular‘.

And obviously, his contract situation opens the door for a potential steal.

Arsenal are still looking to bolster their midfield options in this window. Youri Tielemans appears to be the top target. But they will have others in mind in case Leicester dig their heels in over the Belgian’s asking price.

Ruiz is in the same boat. But if he is determined to not sign a new contract, Napoli do not have a lot of options.

Ruiz, on the other hand, clearly now has plenty of admirers to pick from in the weeks ahead.
