Report: Antonio Conte expected to get rid of Tottenham Hotspur players in January, including £21.7m attacker

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to let Bryan Gil and Japhet Tanganga leave the club in January.

According to Football London, the pair are expected to depart north London in the coming months.

However, it’s not clear whether this will be on a temporary or permanent basis.

Both players were linked with moves away from Spurs in the summer that ultimately didn’t materialise.

Gil was keen to return to Valencia on loan, however Antonio Conte’s lack of depth in attack meant the 21-year-old had to stay.

Tanganga could have left Tottenham on a more permanent basis, with Nottingham Forest and AC Milan both linked.

Neither player is currently a part of Conte’s plans, managing a combined 37 minutes in all competitions.

Conte’s treatment of Gil is particularly jarring for Tottenham fans given injuries to Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison.

The £21.7m winger was once again an unused substitute as Spurs fell to a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle.

Tanganga’s best position is at centre-back, but Conte already has plenty of cover in this area.

The Italian manager did present Tanganga opportunities to impress last season, but he didn’t live up to expectations.

Gil and Tanganga expected to leave in January

The report from Football London suggests that signings are needed in order to let both players leave.

Conte can’t afford for an already thin squad to get any thinner.

The issue is made even tougher this season with how congested the fixture list is.

With Spurs expecting to still be competing on at least three fronts after the World Cup, depth is a requirement.

Whether or not Conte wants to use Gil and Tanganga might be a moot point if injuries continue to hamper his squad.

Football London believe Conte wants ‘ready-made players’ to add to his side in January.

This explains further why Gil and Tanganga are expected to leave, as neither are seen as available to step into Conte’s team.
