'He was desperate': 21-year-old really wanted to leave Tottenham but wasn't allowed to go - journalist

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has been speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel – and has said Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil was ‘desperate’ to leave this summer.

Gil has endured a difficult first year at Spurs after making the switch from Sevilla last summer.

The 21-year-old has failed to nail down a place in Antonio Conte’s side and was even sent out on loan to Valencia during the second-half of last season.

Gil looked set to rejoin the La Liga outfit once again this summer, but Matteo Moretto reported that the deal fell through due to Spurs not being able to secure a replacement

And now Gold has suggested that Gil was ‘desperate’ to secure a move away from Tottenham before the World Cup.

Gil really wanted to leave Tottenham

Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs, Gold claims that Gil is now only likely to play limited minutes at Tottenham

He said: “Poor old Bryan Gil. He was desperate to go anywhere and play football.

“The fact that the poor kid is just sitting there on the bench now, probably just going to play a handful of minutes before the World Cup and the next window.

“That’s where surely someone else could have come in.”

Gil is yet to play a single minute under Conte this season and was clearly keen to secure a loan move away for regular first-team football.

The Spaniard now seems to have limited hopes of getting into Spain’s World Cup squad for Qatar. Barring an injury crisis at Spurs, he’s likely to remain a squad option under Conte.

Football.London reported that Conte spoke about his attacking options ahead of his side’s clash against Sporting Lisbon. But the boss failed to mention Gil due to having the likes of Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son in his squad

Gil is seemingly nowhere near the Spurs XI at this moment in time and despite missing out on a move over the summer, there could be hope for the player in January.
