Report: ‘Amazing’ Gunners player will now travel to complete Arsenal exit, medical on Friday

Arsenal player Joe Willock will now reportedly travel to Tyneside today ahead of a move to Newcastle United, with a medical imminent.

According to The Athletic, the two Premier League clubs have agreed a fee in excess of £20million for the box-to-box midfielder. 

The 21-year-old has also reportedly agreed personal terms with Newcastle. He knows them well after a successful loan spell at St James’ Park in the second half of last season.

The report states the English playmaker is making the trip up north on Thursday and that a medical will take place on Friday morning.

Willock looks set to wave goodbye to his boyhood club, so it’s a massive step in his career. However, it’s not the biggest shock given how well he got on during his Newcastle loan.

The attacking midfielder netted eight goals in just 14 appearances for the Toon, which is why he’s deciding to reunite with Magpies boss Steve Bruce.

He’s someone that was called an “amazing player” by soon-to-be teammate Allan Saint-Maximin in May.

For Newcastle fans, they have felt downbeat about the imagination in their team for several years. Willock is going to go a long way to fixing that.

There is going to be some real joy for Magpies fans returning to the stadium that they’ll be watching the likes of Willock, Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson together. These are the kind of expressive individuals supporters love, so a permanent deal for Willock is massive.

In contrast, Arsenal are deciding to allow the sale of a supreme young talent.

Arteta won’t be guaranteeing Willock a nailed-on starting position because of competition in the squad. It feels like Emile Smith Rowe is the young creator they are putting their faith in.
